Cheryl and Ashley Cole divorce comes to court

Cheryl and Ashley split up in February and sources close to the X Factor judge stated she hoped the divorce could be carried out in a “quick and painless” manner.

Speculation has centred on the couple’s financial arrangements, with Ashley thought to be entitled to about £14 million of their shared £22 million fortune, thanks to his £82,000-a-week wages.

But Cheryl, who is rumoured to be considering moving to the US to be a judge on the new American X Factor series, is stated to have told friends she has no desire to take any of her husband’s assets.

Issues to be resolved between the couple include who will keep their £6 million Surrey mansion and who will take care of their chihuahuas Coco and Buster.

It is thought that neither Cheryl nor Ashley will be present at court for the verdict.

A source close to Cheryl told the Daily Mail: “Cheryl is absolutely thrilled. It’s been a long summer for her after coming down with malaria but now she is on the mend and this is welcome news.”

A spokesman for Cheryl Cole declined to comment.
